Please do read Ebony’s file and bio, you can be sure I’ll do the same for you. I understand her file is a bit lengthy. Ebony's post-amnesia verse is the main and most used verse.
The pre-amnesia verse is the secondary verse typically defaulted to when interactions take place in the past, before 2010-ish.
You don't have to read the bio of the verse we're not using to write together, but feel free to.
There's also the recent addition of her tertiary post-amnesia Empty Throne verse, in which Ebony reluctantly becomes Limbo's new ruler. This verse is never defaulted to but you can request it and I may suggest it for funsies.» NSFW content is present.

Chaotic neutral★ DEMONIC SKILLS (please scan the titles and stats, but no need to read in detail unless its relevant)Limbo traversal without the use of portals. Demonic Weapons have the ability to travel to Limbo, a Mirror Dimension that exists parallel to the Overworld or ‘human world’, separate from Heaven or Hell. It closely resembles the Overworld, but its landscape is twisted, colorful, and teeming with corruption. It gives physical form to people’s sins and uses both imagery and its voice to expose a visitor’s secrets and inner thoughts. Inside, it also allows visitors to see through the mirages used by supernatural beings to hide themselves or misguide humans.
Thanks to its current ruler, Moros, the dimension is chaotic, its terrain constantly shifting and full of Demons and lost souls. Unlike many minion Demons, it’s not Ebony’s home realm. Inside it, most Demons and supernatural entities jump higher, fall slower, and leap farther thanks to the realm’s inconsistent physics.
Click here for a more extensive lore post containing my personal take on Limbo.Demonic Weapon form. Ebony's weapon form shares the same design as Ivory; a black pistol with intricate markings on its barrel and a textured grip, the color being the sole difference between the two. As Demonic Weapons, neither Ebony nor Ivory have to be reloaded and offer extremely low recoil, making them perfect for rapid firing and precise aiming. Their bullets, formed entirely out of Ebony’s energy for both guns, are especially effective against other Demons, Angels, and corrupted entities, but often ineffective against armor.
The transformation is instant and painless, but leaves evidence in a wispy swirl of black smoke that briefly circles her form and trails out of her lungs.
Whichever of her two forms that isn’t actively being used is stored in a secluded corner of Hell, near a place called the Hellforge.
Of all Demonic Weapons, Ebony and Ivory are the only known firearms.Weapon/Master contract and incredible longevity. With a simple handshake and verbal agreement, a contract can be formed between Ebony and a Master.
Ebony’s Wielders can force her to transform into her weapon form at any time. While in this form, she’s directly connected to her Wielder’s thoughts and words and unable to perceive anything using her own senses. While this the way tradition states that she’s meant to be serving her Masters, she much prefers serving them in her humanoid form while wielding Ivory herself. Besides Ebony, only contract holders can wield Ivory, as the contract is needed to serve as a conduit for Ebony’s energy, which is used to create Ivory’s bullets.
This type of Demonic Pact is among the less dangerous ones out there.
Within a contract, Ebony exists in a stasis, unchanging until the contract is broken similarly to how it is formed or until her Wielder passes away, upon which her aging will immediately resume. She does not siphon energy from them to retain her youth. The call. If the person or creature she shares her contract with is hurt or in distress, they will subconsciously call out for Ebony. It’s a one-way psychic connection that functions solely as a beacon. If the danger is life-threatening or if her Wielder consciously requests it, she has to answer the call or suffer debilitating headaches. If there’s no real danger or the distress is entirely emotional, she may ignore it, but will continue to feel the pull until the problem passes. In either scenario she knows only that she is needed and where to find them.
Because of the call, Ebony is physically unable to take her own Master’s life.Demonic fitness and strength. Despite being among the ‘lesser’ Demons, Ebony still boasts a physical prowess far above that of humans of her stature. Her kind draws power directly from both Limbo and Hell. Because of this she’s fast, agile, and hard to beat in a pure test of strength. Thanks to her daily activities she has high stamina. Her body is sturdy, heavy, and made to absorb impact. Demons of her kind have a very high muscle and bone density and high resistance to human disease.
Naturally, when Ebony is facing off against other Demons, well-built humans, or other supernatural beings, she can be overpowered and defeated more easily. There are many Demons stronger than her.Combat. With the loss of her memories Ebony’s skills also took a blow, but she is still adept at hand-to-hand combat. She’s most skilled with Ivory, out-shooting almost any skilled marksman, but not as good at handling other firearms.
Ebony will fight dirty and use Limbo to her advantage where possible, phasing through the barrier between realms to avoid taking hits or surprise her enemies from a new position. In most scenarios against humans or sentient supernatural beings she will aim to disarm her opponent, but given proper cause she will not hesitate to deliver the killing blow and can be ruthless in her methods, at times drawing out their suffering beyond what's necessary.★★★★★★★★☆☆ Strength

Proper holy water and blessed items cause burns and scars, serving as the only effective way of scarring a Demonic Weapon. The marks fade, but this will take multiple decades. The stronger the blessing, the greater the harm. Enough of it will result in death.
Ebony can enter many places of holy worship without getting instantly hurt, but will feel physically uncomfortable.Long gunfights in her weapon form. In a gunfight, Ebony’s flesh-and-bone body both absorbs recoil and expends demonic energy to create her and Ivory’s bullets. Continuous firing beyond the 1,5-hour mark it will leave her tired, sore, and with bruises once she returns to her humanoid form. Fights that last over 4 hours result in longer lasting injuries, like lightly sprained joints. Fights that last as long as 5 to 6 hours can end with broken bones and internal bleeding.Limited advanced healing. Not having a significant form of accelerated healing is a weakness on its own when fighting other kinds of Demons. Superficial bleeding generally stops within minutes and wounds heal at an accelerated rate for the first few hours, but then things slow down closer to the healing capacities of a human. Ebony does not scar from regular wounds, no matter the severity.Limbo entrapment. If a strong enough Demon wills it they can pull Ebony out of the human world and into Limbo. They can temporarily trap her there, forcing her to defeat the offending Demons or find a rift in the barrier between Limbo and the human world in order to escape.Fear of blades in combat. While her own skills with swords and knives are serviceable, Ebony isn't good at protecting herself against bladed weapons and knows how unpredictable they are. Just the sight of one in a combat setting will be enough to unsettle her.Summoning. No matter the type, a Demon can be summoned. While rare, there are spells that serve to summon a Devil Arm like Ebony. Considering a binding circle of a holy nature is needed to make the ritual a success, she would be trapped inside of it and unable to escape even through Limbo until whoever summoned her releases her.
post-amnesia/main bio
(2010's-present)
“You are no child of mine.”...In the dead of night, she stirs on the grimy floor of an abandoned apartment building, stripped clean of everything but her name. No memories, not even an age. No friends, family, or money. Only pain. Only Ebony. Only Ivory. With precious little to her name but that silver pistol, a shell of a woman has nowhere to turn but the filthy streets she finds outside: Limbo City. A lively but corrupted place, where someone without money can only get by on friendly favors and shady deals. In a place like that sex, drugs, and alcohol present themselves as easy choices when it comes to quieting a loud, restless part of her, the one clawing at the wall that separates her from her memories.Ebony gets to enjoy the relative peace of a human life for only a few months before ghosts of her past find her. Demons have a way of preying on the weak and the confused, the Demon king Moros most of all. One of his Hunter Demons catches Ebony's scent and finds that now it's all too easy to drag her into the wasteland of Limbo. The silver pistol, unused until that moment, fits into Ebony's hand like a dream. With it as her weapon, she survives a battle against numerous abominations for long enough to discover that unlike them, she can enter and leave this mirror dimension without having to rely on it to let her. It's enough to make her doubt what little she thinks she knows about herself, but it’s the bone-chilling chants of ‘demon, demon, demon’ from the very walls of that horrid place that seals the deal in her mind.Moros sees an opportunity within her shock. While she’s still coming to terms with her own nature, he tries to lure her to his side with honeyed words and a warm touch. Within a few months he almost succeeds, but even though she’s confused and doesn’t remember an extensive shared past he eludes to, Ebony ultimately isn’t blind to his attempts to turn her into an obedient little plaything. Even as he offers up valuable insight into her lost memories in return for her loyalty, she tells him she would rather go back to being dirt poor and alone.Without Moros she’s lost in a city covertly run by a Demon in human disguise, and she herself is one. What else is there to do than make some questionable—but human—friends? It’s with one of these friends that she forms her first contract; a deal made unintentionally with only a simple handshake and a verbal agreement, but binding all the same. It’s quickly followed by her first few transformations; accidental, messy, and disorienting as things take their time to fall into place. But eventually they do; She’s a 'Demonic Weapon', meant to protect and serve those she forms her contract with. Initially, she can't pin down the exact reason why being bound to another in servitude, of all things, makes her feel so much more alive. She can guess at some—guaranteed companionship, constant thrills, maybe even a purpose of sorts—but the real reason for her kind to constantly seek out new Masters takes time to make itself known. And time, apparently, is something she has plenty of.Ebony finds that once a contract is established she becomes fixed, suspended in time, unchanging for as long as she serves. Years simply pass her by, her body gradually healing even the deepest of scars until she’s right back to where she was when her Master shook her hand. It raises a new and terrible question:
“How old am I?”
Her face is youthful and void of the marks of time, but her fighting instincts tell another story, one of a past spent battling the very same things she’s faced with now.
“Why can’t I remember?”With her having refused Moros’ deal and her kind living in secrecy, she’s unlikely to ever find her answer...Nine years from the day she woke up to the bright lights of Limbo City, Ebony has been living comfortably among humans for all of them, embracing the similarities she found when she still thought she was one of them. She bounces between Wielders and maintains strong bonds with many human friends and those few Demons she actually likes, all while carefully staying off Moros’s radar.Although a convenient way to travel and a daily destination, Limbo holds only hellish landscapes and corruption licking at her heels. Sex, drinks, and risky behaviors sustained by a number of odd jobs offer their own temporary highs, but it’s companionship that feeds her desire for something more significant. For the time being that is her beacon: filling her life with the vices and the people that bring her excitement and joy for as long as she can fight off the questions that still plague her mind. And if it suits her, she’ll upend a few of the Demon King's plans along the way....
pre-amnesia bio
(1602-2010's)
CW for mention of miscarriage and minor physical abuse.Born in Germany on June 14th, 1602, Emilia ‘Ebony’ Durchdenwald grew up in a small manor with her parents; two wealthy and successful Demons. Natural Demon births were rare and nearly exclusive to Demonic Weapons, and the promise of the first twins in their kind's recorded history had been the cause of some excitement. The birth was a complicated affair, which resulted in the passing of her twin sister. The loss hurt Emilia's parents deeply. Their pain ultimately lead them to the controversial decision to raise Emilia as a human, hoping to spare her the dangers that a life as a Demonic Weapon would be sure to bring. They hid all evidence of their true nature while providing their daughter with the best education their wealth could buy. As far as Emilia knew, she was a regular human girl, loved dearly by her father and more indirectly by her mother, who did her best to educate and protect her despite Emilia's nature desire to fight her every step of the way. When Emilia was just fifteen, things came to a head. During an extravagant party at their home, a relative who opposed her parents’ methods took matters into her own hands. The woman took Emilia aside and offered her the truth:
"Child, you're no human, no more than the rest of us. We are Demons, Weapons to be wielded. Hell itself brought forth our family millennia ago and its fires give us strength and longevity your parents would have you waste. Our weapon forms are forged in those very flames, one for each of us. Without Masters to sustain you your life will surely be short and meaningless."Distraught, Emilia set off to confront her parents, calling them out through her tears and begging them to justify their years of deceit. Caught off guard, her mother screamed for silence, for the questions to end, and struck her in front of their guests. Her father’s best efforts to comfort her proved insufficient at keeping the pain caused by their betrayal from taking root. His daughter's natural defiance turned into rebellion, questions and demands for answers never ceasing. When Emilia found that she was getting nowhere, she began sneaking out of the manor at night in search of a human to form a contract with. Unfortunately, she had no connections, and had to settle for shaking hands with a young man whose intentions were shady at best, cruel at worst. With the bond made, Emilia disappeared from the manor just a few days after her sixteenth birthday, carrying the vessel of her lost sister. She never breathed a word of it to her parents.Emilia's mother tracked her down nine years later in the New World. Her daughter had already become very familiar with forging demonic contracts and discovered their kind's inherent ability to traverse Limbo, a skill her parents neglected to hone themselves. Emilia refused to return with only her mother to their old home in Germany. If living among humans was such a bad thing, why had her parents planned to raise her as one? They fought, and Emilia claimed victory over the woman she so despised. Feeling as though this was the final step in disconnecting herself from her parents, she shed her given name and would continue to only be called by her vessel’s name: Ebony. The young Demoness was ready to enjoy the freedom she’d earned, but unprepared for the reality of life as a Demon among humans. Her first love, a bright-eyed human woman who helped Ebony grasp her newfound independence, was quickly and ruthlessly taken by disease. It hurt her deeply and lead her to question her choices, but she was unable to bring herself to separate from humanity. Slowly, Ebony moved up from serving lowlifes and petty criminals and caught the interest of increasingly wealthy and powerful people, eventually seen in the presence of high-profile figures. She existed in the background, her role in her Masters' lives kept vague to the average onlooker. Even so, her career and private life resulted in a paper trail: sketches, paintings, photos, and letters about her lost with time.Eventually, she would love another human, a man who fought alongside her in a rebellion. Ebony was engaged to be wed when death again found her lover, this time at the hands of the Demon King Moros himself. No more, she pledged. Loving humans lead only to pain. It was best to fade out of their lives before age and death could creep in.Not all of Ebony's life that followed was spent serving others. She forged plenty of 'arrangements' that allowed her to live independently for years at a time. One of the most notable chapters in her life was her time in the American west in the 19th century, where she made some of her fondest memories since the loss of her fiance. After roughly four centuries, she was skilled and dangerous as both a Weapon and a bodyguard, highly regarded among others of her kind as a Demon who never struggled to find a Master.Fresh into the 21st century, Ebony’s mother hunted her down one last time. This lead her to Limbo City New York, where her daughter was rumored to be lingering with the intent to settle a score with the Demon king Moros. In the eyes of a woman who had stubbornly maintained her ways the young Demoness had adapted to the modern age disturbingly well. Seeing how Ebony had turned into everything she had tried desperately to avoid, seeking danger as if to squander the life her sister never got, her mother felt revolted.“You are no child of mine.”In that moment, she decided that the time had come to permanently banish and disown her daughter from their family, to make the decision two-sided once and for all. Ebony hadn’t made any attempt to reconnect with her roots for almost 300 years, but it wasn’t in her nature to allow anyone to make that choice for her, especially her. Thus, Ebony refused the official separation. This left her mother with only one choice; She would make sure her daughter didn’t remember she even had a family.
verses
★ Open for business. || main/primary crossover verse (post-amnesia)Set roughly 9 years after Ebony awakes with total amnesia. Default modern verse.
Still without her memories, Ebony lives alone in a small run-down apartment and is either searching for a contract or in one. She loathes the lonely nights, but revels in the freedom of having no past. When it suits her, she’ll enter Limbo to put a small dent in the hordes of Demons swarming the place, but mostly traverses the wasteland to cross through real-world boundaries or travel faster to wherever her odd jobs take her.★ It’s time for some old-fashioned rebellion. || memories past/secondary crossover verse (pre-amnesia)Set anywhere between the 1620’s and the 2010’s, before Ebony loses her memories.
Ebony lives almost exclusively for freedom and adventure. With her youth sustained by her Masters, she is an ever-present footnote in history books, if you know where to look. A phantom of time, skilled beyond her years and boasting an impressive arsenal of knowledge. If one were to truly scour every piece of historical evidence, they would find the same mysterious but lively young woman in many sketches, paintings, and photographs—never the sole subject but always in the background. It’s mentioned in the odd text how this elusive woman was often seen at the side of high-profile figures; pirates, rebel leaders, notorious cowboys, or wealthy business heirs, supporting their dealings from the shadows. But these documents are scattered, and who has the time for such things?
For this verse, you can bypass Ebony’s main bio and read her secondary bio.★ If I am to rule their wreckage sunk. || Empty Throne/Ruler of Limbo verse/tertiary crossover verseSet 10+ years post-amnesia.
After the mysterious death of the Demon King Moros at the hand of one lonesome Demon wielding a Holy blade, Limbo is at risk of bursting open and flooding into the human world, threatening all life on Earth. For the first time in millennia it acts on its own accord and desperately reaches out for the only compatible creature present inside it at the time. Limbo forces Ebony down and pleads wordlessly for her to see what's happening, the tragedy that is unfolding. It presents her the opportunity to take what Moros left behind and prevent disaster. It's hardly a real choice. Fearing which of Moros' minions it may go to next, she accepts.
The notion of ruling over an entire realm and facing the corrupted state of it is terrifying, so Ebony merely crumbles Moros' tower and tries to go back to a life without her greatest adversary. In time the disappearance of the Demon King and the lack of command begin to cause unrest. No one, not even Ebony's few friends of her kind, know who took over, but together they decide that whoever did must not be suitable to rule. There are discussions of a hunt, followed by a coup, and Ebony has to decide whether she wants to continue to hide, give up her rulership to whoever comes knocking, or announce her ownership of the throne and turn Limbo into something new.Click here for a drabble on how Ebony's rulership over Limbo came to be (optional).★ Reclaim what was taken. || future verse (mainly for use with muses whose canon is exclusively set in the future)Set anywhere after the year 2060.
Having accepted the permanent loss of her memories, Ebony builds herself back up from the ground up, eventually finding herself within the same circles she used to run with in the distant past. As a result of this, her old journal is returned to her in 2044, battered and missing more than half its pages, but full of memories written in her own handwriting. Diary entries, quotes, sketches, and photos tell her a chopped up version of her own story, one that she knows is hers but finds herself struggling to connect to. Regardless, she keeps it and uses it to reconnect with more of her old contacts, who help her insert herself back into the scene. They note that she has changed, reshaped by having been left in the modern world with no memories, but that she isn’t much less fearsome and skilled than she used to be. If anything, her adaptability has grown, formed out of necessity but now a valuable skill that many older Demons don’t possess.
With pieces of her returned and old friends to guide her, Ebony reclaims her status as a highly skilled Demonic Weapon by 2060, merging together old and new into a remade version of herself.
(Please note that in my version of events Limbo did not collapse into the human world at the end of the game’s events.)★ Life’s a drag. || DmC: Devil May Cry reboot verseSet during or close to the events of DmC: Devil May Cry. This verse is mostly for use with DmC characters since Ebony has since been made into an independent OC. Ebony is in a contract with Dante, but doesn’t necessarily live with him. She stays close, however, and is intimately involved with his business, as is her duty.★ You can’t beat the classics! || classic Devil May Cry verseAs a Demonic Weapon without a vessel assigned by the Hellsmith, Emilia Durchdenwald spends her early years struggling to come to terms with her fate. Willingly estranged from her family and without the ability to serve a Master or retain her youth, she has little driving her forward but the need to survive. She naturally falls into the shady side of things, the better portion of her young adulthood spent killing other Demons for meager earnings. As her entire family before her all had beautiful blades as their weapon vessels, she refuses to use them, opting for blunt weapons or firearms to get the job done. She will sooner rip another apart with her bare hands than wrap them around the hilt of a sword. At twenty, she enlists the help of a coven to open a channel of communication with the Hellsmith, the one who crafts the vessels for all Demonic Weapons. The deal strips her of her valuables and with little to show for it, as he informs her that there’s nothing to be done; her parents prevented him from crafting the vessels, wishing for their daughters to live a human life. To forge one after the fact, without her sister alive to be her counterpart, goes against the rules that shackle him. Sympathizing with her situation, he offers her a small glimmer of hope and points her to Nell Goldstein, the only weapon smith alive on the surface capable of rivaling his creations.Nell accepts the challenge of creating a vessel for a Devil Arm to inhabit— a firearm, at Emilia’s request. The request ends up tying in perfectly with another goal of hers, to create twin pistols capable of handling Dante’s incredibly high rate of firing. Not only this, but her nature would also allow him to channel their shared demonic power into the bullets with her as a conduit. Ironically, the weapons end up being made up of spare parts of pistols that Dante had broken in the past. His destruction would ultimately be her salvation and allow him to obtain weapons capable of withstanding his power.Emilia falls into Nell’s arms-teary eyed when the black pistol is accepted by the Hellsmith as a viable vessel and mounted in Hell’s great weapon hall, enabling her to inhabit it and finally fulfill the destiny her parents had stolen from her. During the creation of the weapons the two have grown rather close. The woman is more of a mother to her than her own had ever been. Because of this, Emilia chooses to shed her given name and take on the one Nell gave to her vessel: Ebony. She is hesitant about being bound to one Master at first, but Dante’s goal of defeating Gilver resonates with her. Their bond is strengthened by Nell’s eventual death, a tragedy that would have sent Ebony spiraling if not for another with whom to share the loss.Their connection as Weapon and Master is solid. He wields her and her sister pistol in battle, and she finds her footing as a bodyguard for hire in between missions. She gradually becomes more independent, less of a tool to be used and more of an equal. In time Ebony finds herself most comfortable with Ivory in her grasp, fighting alongside Dante with increasing frequency as opposed to being wielded.(Any information from Ebony’s general info page that doesn’t directly conflict with this verse description will still apply.)
NPCs
Significant characters in Ebony's life that may be mentioned during interactions.

Moros, 'The Demon King', 'Jacob Ryder'. Ebony's worst enemy and the current ruler of Earth's Limbo. After millennia of ruling over the Demon inhabitants of Limbo he has his sights set on conquering the human world and gaining control over humanity through his disguise as an extremely successful businessman. All this, of course, just being the first steps to then make a move on Heaven and Hell.
Shortly after Ebony suffered amnesia he briefly managed to trick her into believing he would protect and care for her, despite having killed her fiancé with his own hands in the distant past. Ultimately he failed, leaving her almost as bitter towards him as she was before, but he continues to be a consistent source of agony to Ebony and any other Demons who oppose his rule.

The Hellsmith. A talented and renowned blacksmith in life, this man sold his soul to a Demon to save his daughter. In death he resides in Hell, guarding over the Hellforge and the great Weapon Halls where all Demonic Weapon vessels are stored, including Ebony's Weapon form and at times her flesh-and-bone body.
When a new Demonic Weapon is born, it is one of the weapons forged by his hands in Hell's fires that will become their vessel. Crafting a new vessel dims the flames that surround his physical form until he is nothing but smouldering coals, forcing him to slumber for a long time to regain his energy.
After having dutifully served for centuries, the Demon he made his deal with has granted him a human vessel resembling the body he once had to temporarily inhabit so that he may walk among mortals. He has yet to put this vessel to use.

Agnes Durchdenwald. Ebony's mother and an equally talented Demonic Weapon. A once reasonable woman turned bitter after her only daughter turned her back on their family.
Has made a few attempts to contact her since but has stopped entirely after personally inflicting her daughter with amnesia. As far as she's concerned, the matter has been dealt with, even if she now has no one left to call family. She still carries a 'tool' capable of breaking the seal on Ebony's memory despite having no plans to ever use it.

Cane. Sarcastically named by Ebony in reference to his appearance and use of a metal cane as a weapon. A powerful and enigmatic Limbo Demon that counts himself among Ebony's rivals thanks to his tendency to go out of his way to annoy her. While he has never hurt her loved ones in her past or present, he routinely insists on facing her in 'friendly' one-on-one combat, and him interfering in her business in order to get his way has at times cost her dearly.
Has known Ebony long enough to still stubbornly call her 'Emilia' during every interaction. Only after she suffers amnesia does he begin calling her 'Ebony' in order to 'keep the mystery alive'.
